I AM

A minimalist.

EXTINCT

Selfish swims
Downstream egotistic waters
Inhalating lungful self - centered
Throw away.
Environment distorted,
Shadow beams
Murky rays of
Egocentric manifestation,
Reflecting obscure ambition
Nowhere.

ONE MORE BUK

We all want to be Bukowski,
Write like him
Type like him
Read like him
Drink like him
Smoke like him
Work like him
Sleep like him
Screw like him
Swear like him
Dress like him
Smell like him
Fight like him
Walk like him
Drive like him
Bet like him
Eat like him
Think like him
Talk like him
Live like him
Rich like him
But we’re not.

BULLSHIT

Red is blue
Now and again
Subjective becomes objective
I
The one who sprints
Many pens
Wild to nowhere
Am lost…
…Second guessing
Your muse.
Dry
Beneath your white, summer snow,
Am I alone?

SLEEPWRITING

Had a great dream last night
Visually rich and fulfilling
Today lost in oblivion.
If I could be as disciplined as
Ginsberg and Burroughs to have
Pad and pen on my night table ready
To jump into action in case I wake up at night
To pen down my dream…Instead the one thing
I did not loose was my sleep.

MY VOTE

It’s always people who have
No moral values, people who are
Divorced,
Atheists,
Troubled,
Self-seeking,
Anarchists & Protestants,
Who criticize and blame
The Catholic Church for
Their discrepancies.
I pray for them
And that the devil
Never runs for president.

MAY I COME IN?

Inside
Drunken butterflies
Twirl
Free-falling with joy
Mind gyrates out of control,
Whispering lusty
Out of focus lullabies.
Outside
Desire knocks
Rigid
Erect gate,
Craving.

COMMON SENSE
Unexpected
Is always expected,
So why are you surprised?

Monday, April 27, 2009

OH WELL

Began writing about my Sunday,
It got too long.
Got bored while describing
My toe injury and then limping to church
So now,
I bore you with this much shorter poem
About nothing.

I DON’T LIKE LONG POEMS

Whatever I’m writing about
I try to express and condense it
Using the least amount of words.
My poems and prose are
Getting shorter and shorter.
Not sure if it’s because I’m a
Minimalist or just lazy.

Love stroke

Rumi love poems
Float
Sail
Clogged
Pathway
Tubular channel
Pumping passion,
Drenching
Lover’s heart.

COFFEE BREAK

Unannounced
Tranquility rattles
Serenity speeds
Calm becomes chaos
Money is chief
Sin is in
Control is out of control,
Hope Faith comes back home soon.

BILINGUAL

If I write
En español,
Can you understand
Mi admiración al sol
How much the sea
Significa para mí?
Breathes liberty,
Y en la brisa advertí
The essence of life.
Libertad del Alma
Skimming over waves
Rociandome con vida,
Eternal feeling days.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Week of reflection
The passion
Jesus Christ’s resurrection
It’s all about you,
Just think about it.

LEAVING IN STYLE

Packing
Leaving
Prose behind
Scheduled arrival
Gate and time,
Composing my poems
With rhythm
And rhyme.
Abhor or adore
Musical style,
To some it comes easy
Other’s awhile.
Organic food
A matter of taste,
Like gifted talent
A pity to waste.
Considered tacky
Modernist denial
Romantic’s inspiration
Luring women for miles.
Four seasons dress the weather
Plenty to choose,
What to wear
How to use.
Takes minimal luggage
Deconstructing my write
Or write it in rhyme
All day and all night.

BEG

Silence
Louder
When
Silent,
Echoes
Ripple
Canyon
Walls.
Heavy
Emptiness
Abandon,
Lonely
Sound
Tearful
Soul.
Chilling
Mute
Hollow
Screaming,
Breathless
Wake
Crying

Gone.

CRUSH

Is it an image?
Wandering my mind
Or words
Hiding from view
Perhaps a feeling
Hiding inside
Split open
Streaming passion,
Engulfing you.

WITHOUT FEATHERS

Yesterday
Young
Old today
Matter
On the way to
Decay,
Hoping
Steer clear
The pain
That casts
Upon
An aging mind.
Give the kiss of life
To Family spirits
Nourish love
Without no limits.
Once
The best
Now it’s
Time
To rest,
On Heavens
Branch
Inside
My nest.

4

I pray
Thank the Lord
Daily
4 Everything he
Provides.
I pray
4 the unwell
Deprived
Dispossessed
Lost souls
I pray 4
Families in anguish
I pray 4
A better world
I pray 4 my family
I pray to become
A better person,
I pray 4 you.

DANCE YOUR LIFE AWAY

In this duplicitous world,
Two-faced Devils foxtrot
To the beat
Of your favorite
Tune.

Friday, March 20, 2009

AND YOUR NAME IS…?

Snobbery,
Insecure Desease
Lame less hearts
Young
Old
Farts.
Mindless
Landlord
Travelers of void
Clutch shallow suitcase
Replete with empty
Eternity.
Progressive
Degrading insulation
Dripping liquid egos,
Blind conquistadors.
Powerful stupidity
Conquer weak souls,
Factory made Lucifer molds
Sun bathe in dark pit holes.

WWJD

As you walk thru life
Your friend suddenly
Stabs you
Someone else
Punches you
Your girlfriend/wife
Is unfaithful
You’re robbed
Bad mouthed
Harassed
Envied
Yelled
Cursed
Undeservedly fired
Threatened
Deceived
Ridiculed
Tortured
Your brother
Steals from you
And as it gets worse
And your reaction
Could become
A chain reaction
Best stop and think…
…What would Jesus do?

RAMONA
Bought a $2000 teacup Yorkie
Long and CRAZY story, don’t ask…
…unless you have time to spare.
She now has flaky skin
Allergies,
She’s
Losing hair
Looks like a drenched parrot
Bites like a great white,
But it’s only a phase.
Her brother lives in
Lenny Kravitz’s
Miami mansion,
Ramona’s stuck with us.
We love each other,
Irony is priceless.

THAT’S HOW IT IS

I think I’m a poet
Don’t care if you do
Won’t write about Robins
Fragile petal flowers
Undercover moons.

I think
Look up
Write it down
In my room.

What it means
I don’t know,
Ideas
Come and go.
Eventually
Out of the blue
This poem
Might be for you.

This is true
That’s my way
Sometimes
I Have nothing to say
But If I’m lucky
And you’re in town
You’ll be reading
This today.

SIN RULES

You divorce
Date other people
Live or have
Sex with them
Sometimes out of love
Sometimes because you’re lonely.
The example is set
Under similar circumstances
Your children probably
Will act the same way
Now you don’t have
Moral authority to
Stop
Or judge them…
…good luck.

I TRY

And I try
Not to look for
For you picture.
And I try
Not to envision
Your face
And I sigh
Swiftly falling
From grace
Exorcise my mind
To space
Preventing my eyes
To sin
Averting my soul
Within
And I try…
…Introduce,
Forbidden Love
To the wind.

MISCONCEPTION

Had to lie.
When asked,
Said I worked at McDonalds
Fellow students
Would never understand…
…Care.
An art student
Living under the shade of the Empire State
Footsteps away 5th Avenue
Not having to work???
I’d be a snob from abroad
Worst yet
I was an ambassador’s son,
What a Bum!
He feels no pain
Has nothing to gain
Homeless people have more to say!

Never felt like explaining
Lying was much easier
Become one of them
Should have told them,
About my homeless heart.

RECOLLECTION

Rewriting
Getting nowhere
Fed trashcan
18 sentences
Basically
Missing your heart’s voice
Those fried ant snacks
Tablecloth’s coffee stains
Father and son chat.
It’s been 68 seasons
I’m you to my boy
He’s 20 years of remembrance,
Just not the same
What a shame.

BYE

I’m
Nobody
In
The way
My survival
Traps
You
Sun blocks
Blind fate
Sadly
Sits.
Peel
Away
Quickly
Follow
Each,
Every one
Take pleasure
Cheer the soul.
My
Empty Island,
Happily
Floats.

THIS ONE’S FOR YOU

I don’t care if I’m not published
I don’t care if I’m not read
Every poem that I write,
Is for you
When I am dead.

DESEOS

Te deseo noche y día
Deseo siempre seas mía.
Deseo tus finos movimientos
Deseo tus dulces pensamientos.
Deseo el aire que suspiras
Deseo los ojos con que miras.
Deseo besar tu cuerpo entero
Deseo hacerlo si no muero.
Deseo acariciarte con ternura
Deseo amarte con locura.
Deseo excitar tu corazón
Deseo compartas mi palpitación.
Deseo coquetear tus sentimientos
Deseo trepiden tus cimientos
Deseo acordarme que no debo,
Escribir lo mucho que te quiero.

LYSISTRATA

She disbanded armies
No more lovemaking
Tyrant lover
Negotiate peace
End war
Retreat and repent
I’ll give you more.

Aristophanes…
Playwright
Strategist or
Orgasmic genius?

GENESIS

It evolutionized from,
Charge it to God’s bill.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Feel me twinge
While I talk
Perceive my sigh
As I walk
Witness my heart
On a wire
Bleed thick drops
Of desire
I IMPLORE
Telephone
Ring just once
Or hang me forever.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

PUBLICKLY

Every now and then
Feel like not writing again
I’ve long lost interest in people
Yet,
I care about you.

ROCK HER

Car stereo
Full blast
Melodious drive.
Today I’m
Master Jimmy page
Tomorrow bald
Michael Stipe
Yesterday
Wizard Elton John
Eddie Van Halen
Perhaps Bono,
At all times
Imagining
Your front row
Enamored
Face.

POP POEM

Come baby
Wake up
Say something
Sweet tonight.
Heart is aching
My soul is
Shaking
Ready to
Rock n love,
Before
I turn on
The light.

SOMETHING TO WRITE ABOUT

Poet’s ink
Howl
Knock back
Worship
Detest
Slaughter
Protest
Including a fixation with
Rose petals
Water Lilies
Violets
Spring and
Sparrows.
That’s what I think…

I DO, I DON’T

Writing about marriage
When you’re getting married
is hard.

Writing about marriage
When you’re getting married
While you’re still a student
is hard.

Writing about marriage
When you’re getting married
While you’re still a student
While you’re sitting in a classroom
is hard.

Writing about marriage
When you’re getting married
While you’re still a student
While you’re sitting in a classroom
When you’re really not getting married
is harder.

*Poem written and published in 1984 as a School of Visual Arts student in NYC, sitting in a classroom about to get married.

PSYCHO-DELIC

Purple leather turtles
Smoking hippy rats
Gastric glands
Secrete Orange Juices
Leave my stomach
Swim in land.
Cauliflower hairy clouds
Pouring purple rain,
Heavy inches
Salt dry water
Sad the clown
Drowns again.
Mushroom confusion
Stop long haired ants,
Angry bitten leaves curse
Paparazzi popping plants.
Slow feline drivers
Married canine sky divers,
Jump outside
Hot left shoe.
Cell phone starts ringing
Soprano liver singing
Strange writings
Because of you.
Hush rush
Drink liquid Ink
Flamingo thoughts
Dream is pink,
One pill
Black rainbows will
To purposely get lost.

ANDY WARHOL WAS MY NEIGHBOR
9 East 32nd Street
Between 5th and 6th
New York City
Apartment 3C
SVA Art Student
Living with my cat
“Loco”.
On same block
Andy ran his “Factory”
Saw his visual self,
Frequently.
Crossed each other one afternoon,
He gave me a free copy
Of his “Interview” magazine.
23 years later
Was thinking…
…Had I asked for his autograph,
God knows the value
Such copy would have today.
